In this issue of Industry Update, we have featured BJ Associates Ltd as our Precision Tooling Company of the Month.
Initially founded in 1990 as a sales company, BJ Associates Ltd merged with Complete Grinding Services to create a hybrid brand in 2000. Today, BJ Associates is a trusted partner of choice for British engineering companies, delivering innovative cutting tools that drive precision, productivity and profitability.
Based in Southampton, BJ Associates are experts in tool and cutter grinding, but its expansion into custom manufacture using CNC technology has gained the company high-profile customers in the UK aerospace, defense and marine industries, as well as Formula 1.
BJ Associates supply a wide range of cutting tools, including carbide-tipped drill bits, micro tool kits and milling cutters. As trusted partners of Kyocera Unimerco and Dixi Polytool SA; the company also offers industry-leading solid carbide tools, micro-machining solutions and turning inserts.
Precision tooling experts in HSS and carbide, BJ Associates also manufacture cutting tools. The company’s in-house tool CAD design team specialise in creating custom cutting tool solutions tailored to client’s specific machining needs and can create bespoke solutions for a variety of applications.
BJ Associates also provide tool coatings which improves wear resistance and extends tool life. The company offers a full cutting tool refurbishment service for HSS and Carbide tools as well.
Setting itself apart from an ordinary wholesaler, BJ Associates values its ability to solve problems by using a wealth of expertise gained from years of experience. Its strong supplier relationships give BJ Associates expert insights and enable one-to-one site visits to identify lean manufacturing opportunities for customers.
Over the years BJ Associates has also developed a reputation for its incredibly fast lead times. Sales Director Justin Taylor told us, “We pride ourselves on our lead time. We can tend to turn tools around in under a week for most people, possibly even a few days if it’s a real emergency.”
Justin also explained that the key differentiator for the company is the emphasis it puts on growing alongside customers, whether that’s through quick turnarounds or helping to achieve lean manufacturing operations,
“I think a key facet of the business is the relationships we develop with customers. We work on a job-by-job basis and work directly with clients to help them achieve results. For example, I’ve worked here for 11 years and I’ve grown alongside customers, so relationship building is key.”
As BJ Associates looks forward it plans to add to its current manufacturing facilities with more machinery and CNC grinding facilities, before an eventual expansion of premises.
