The year was 1973, when Karndean Designflooring started their journey to create premium, luxury vinyl flooring with a focus on design and quality to set them apart from their competitors. As their company grew over the years, their need for more space became a demand which could not be ignored. The year is now 2020, and for Kardean Designflooring this was the year they contacted Total Interiors to help realise their vision for a spacious, high-end office space and training academy.
Richard Cook, Operations director at Kardean Designflooring spoke to Total Interiors about how their lack of space was affecting their work space. “As the business grows it becomes challenging to physically accommodate the right people in the right areas. Having departments split across two different sites and a lack of space hindered growth and efficiency. Collaborative working between key departments such as procurement and customer service was affected.”
With all this in mind, Team Total set to work on the new project and designed the first plan. The detailed map created the first vision of the complete project. Preparations included building controls, planning applications and of course approval for the final design.
While the new Mezzanine Floor was being fabricated, Team Total removed the original worn out Mezzanine Floor. Lighting and ceilings, doors and partitioning were among the initial sections to be removed.
With phase one completed we were left with an empty shell, the perfect base for any project with highly detailed drawings to complement the project plans. The first installation was half of the new Mezzanine Floor, which doubled in size compared to their previous Mezzanine Flooring. It was easy to see how much more space the Training Academy was accumulating with the help of Team Total.
Foundations were built so the lighting and all important WIFI could be installed. The white walling and fire walls were built to enclose the new office space. Ceilings and partitioning walls were built to create segments. Once the kitchen and bathrooms were installed, the new Training Academy was coming to life. The ground floor allowed more space for their training pods.
After several hard weeks of work, the Kardean Training Academy is now open and ready for business.
We spoke to Richard once again after the work had been completed. “The new space looks great and has been a morale boost to personnel returning to the office after several months working remotely. It provides space for growth and has allowed key departments to come together in a single, much larger office.”
